Proofreading Service

The Final Step for Your Flawless Words

Why do you need a proofreader?

The more words fill a document, the more mistakes could hide in the lines. Typos, inconsistencies, and cheeky extra spaces – these scoundrels won’t choose between carefully constructed fiction novels, magazine articles, or snappy short stories.

That’s why proofreading should be part of the big picture when it comes to your superb work. Putting all your time and energy in creating a great text deserves the extra ink. Read on to find out how your handiwork can benefit from a professional with keen eyes.

My job as a proofreader

includes spotting those bothersome, hidden mistakes in spelling, punctuation, and grammar. I aim for accuracy and consistency: formatting, tables, images and their captions, references, and other little roguish nuisances are all on my checklist when I look at your text. I carry out these corrections on Word documents with Track Changes, on PDF files with commenting tools, but I also gladly work with BSI proof-correction marks either on paper or on PDF.

That’s a rather big mouthful of description, isn’t it? But I’ve got you covered: check out my services page for more information about proofreading, or you can learn more about the different levels of editing by clicking on the button below. Also, feel free to contact me for a chat and I can advise you about the type of editing your text could use.

Sounds like the extra ink your writing can use?

Then send me a message!

We can discuss whether proofreading matches your manuscript’s needs, or figure out if we would make a great team.

Do you write thriller, suspense, horror, historical, dystopian fiction stories? Something else with some mystery and darkness in it?

Or maybe you have a non-fiction title? Historical or true crime?

I'd love to hear from you then whether it's a novel or a short story!

Also, if your work is translated or English is not your first language, please don't be shy to write me a message. I've been there, I've done it, and I can assure you that your text is in supportive hands.

Or do you have a video game script?

If you work with a video game developing team and could use a proofreader, don’t hesitate to get in touch! I was delighted to proof-edit part of the script for Descending I – House of Nightmares VR game and received these kind words and this great image from the end credits.

'We haven’t only found a translator and proofreader in Kata, but also a creative writer who helped us raise the story of our game to a higher level. I wholeheartedly recommend her for any creative projects be it translation, copyediting, or proofreading.'

I know you’re also interested in my fee but

contacting me is the easiest way to find it out. The Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) currently recommends £25.70 hourly rate for proofreaders – this is the suggested minimum rate, but it is only a guideline and also negotiable. Every project is different, the amount of intervention they need vary, your and my circumstances differ, so it’s best to discuss the finances once I know more about your work.
